Do I have to want to before I begin?
5am.
Cold. Dark.
I don’t want to.
This is the part nobody puts in the photograph.
We tend to think motivation comes first.
Then action.
Then, perhaps, the reward.
I’m not sure that’s how it works.
Sometimes you begin reluctant.
You ride into the dark.
Take the next turn.
Keep going.
And somewhere along the way, something changes.
The view.
The weather.
Your legs.
You.
The reluctance doesn’t necessarily disappear.
You just discover it didn’t need to.
Tomorrow, I’m riding into the Italian Alps with a group of biotech people, co-hosting three days in the mountains with BiotechBikers.
I’ll report back.
But for now:
Do I have to want to before I begin?
